Happy Wednesday, Clique Friends! I'm taking a trip down memory lane today to share this fun album insert- featuring a full-on mohawked MJ. I'm celebrating myself, a piece of my story, and a little bit of my love of punk rock in today's post! I wanted to play along with the Clique Kits challenge for this month- which was to create a project inspired by one (or more) of the elements (earth, air, fire, water). The bold patterned paper designs in the Summer Feels Kit from Simple Stories were the perfect way to bring this element-inspired title to life!
Speaking of the July challenge, we have wonderful challenges in the Clique Facebook Group, where everyone can earn fun prizes, rewards, and get cheered on by our awesome community of crafters! If you would like to play along with our latest challenge (or one in the future), you can always come hang out with with us in the Clique Facebook Group :)
I recently did some digging through an old box of notes, photos, and memories from my old high school friends and found these fun photos of a very punk rock-loving MJ that I knew would be perfect for this kit. It's pretty funny, because I dyed my hair back to pink recently and then found these photos of me with some electric pink hair! It almost felt like a sign to pay tribute to my younger self and continue my progress on the teenage album I've been working on for the past couple of years.
For the cover itself, I knew that I wanted to size it to fit into one of my Citrus Twist Lofe Crafted Albums, so I cut this adorable heart paper down to 8.5 inches by 8 inches. I had a leftover scrap from my last sunglasses layout that I decided to cut down to 2 inches by 8 inches to create the spine for the outside of the book. I really try to use every last little piece of each kit, so the flower embellishment cut file on the cover was actually created with leftover scraps from the Sunkissed Sampler Kit. I really love how the two collections blended together to create this cover!
Next, I adhered a fun rainbow page to the inside of the album, and lightly adhered it to the inside of the book (to create a border). While adhering it, I decided that I really wanted it to have two pockets on the side where I could hide journaling- so I left a small space of the inside background page unadhered on each side to leave a "pocket" for those tags. It was kind of a happy accident, because after adding some string, those tags made the perfect DIY way to have both journaling and a unique way to keep the book from opening. Once I adhered the background paper, I scored the book, and started to embellish the inside- my favorite part!!
I wanted to create a fun background page that would mirror the title that I had in mind (Sky above me, earth below me, fire within me...), so I threw in the Sunny Skies page from Heidi Swapp to create the background for the right page and the bold sun paper from the Summer Feels Kit to turn up the heat (cheesy dad pun intended haha). I used my Cricut to cut out the colorful title, and added cute embellishments to give the page a fun summer feel!
Thank you for stopping by today! I hope this post inspired you to reach for older photos to document that celebrate those past moments (no matter how small). What is one project that is part of your story that you want to capture next?!
