Hello there! It's Heather Doolittle here with a layout that I created using some mixed media along with this month's Regatta kit! I think this layout gives this kit a whole different 'look,' so I hope you'll check it out!
I didn't really have any ideas to use mixed media other than playing around with some paint. So, I took out some different acrylics and started layering them on a scrap piece of white cardstock! In general, I let each color of paint dry before adding another color-- I didn't want the colors to get muddy. I used an old gift card to smear the paint around. I wanted to use some stencils in with the smears, but I have lost my stencils since we have moved last fall and can't find them! Waah!
One of my favorite layers is the pen scribbling layers. All I do is write some sentences in really loopy and messy handwriting. I try not to make it legible. :) After I scribbled some words down, I added some more paint layers on top.
After I finished all of the painty layers and they dried, I used a circle punch and punched out some circles from the "patterned paper" I just made! After I placed the circles onto the layout, I stitched some of them down with my sewing machine.
I love that woodgrain patterned paper that is included in the scrapbook kit this month! I think I have used up most of that paper on just my few projects this month! I think the gray texture really goes with the paint colors I chose.
I'm really happy with how this page turned out-- whenever you want to try some mixed media, but don't feel too inspired, just try smearing some paint around on a scrap piece of paper and then punch out some shapes from it!
Thanks for joining me today!
