Hi Everyone! I am so excited to share my first blog post as a Clique Kits Ambassador - I cannot wait to share the love of these amazing kits! I have been a pocket scrapbooker for some years now, but decided this month to do something different and the April “Winter Park” kit was so fun to work with for this special moment. Our youngest daughter lost her very first tooth and she was beyond thrilled, so I wanted to make sure to get the story down for her to look at for years to come. This layout was done in a mixed media journal. I chose to put the layout on black cardstock, in order for the Maggie Holmes/Crate Paper “Flourish” papers to pop from the page. I cut some of the paper into 2” x 3” rectangles to form a staggered frame around the photo. I used several different ways to mark the special occasion, one of which was using the rose gold foiled Thickers from the kit. We were calling her “toothless” all day, and I wanted to include that, but also to notate that it was the first tooth lost, I broke it up to also say, “1 tooth {less}” kind of a play on the words. Journaling was a must, though, as I wanted her to remember everything leading up to the day that her tooth came out. I used the same size paper cut outs, in the same staggered pattern as in the photo frame, so as to tie the two look is together. I used the cardstock stickers, also from the “Flourish” line included in the kit, to layer another title under her photo. The ‘SMILE’ sticker was definitely fitting for the photo and I felt that it was a great contrast to the black and white photo. Then, I cut one of the ephemera pieces, that was initially ticket tag, to subtly mark the day of the week. Thank you for stopping by and I hope you were able to get some inspiration for telling your special stories using the ‘Winter Park’ kit!

Hello lovelies, Theresa here today to share a layout featuring the April Butterfly Cut File! As soon as I saw this beautiful file I knew I had to use it! Take a peek at what I did with it. I have a favorite project I like to create for, and it is called Things I Need to Hear. I started this project a few years ago as a way to create layouts about myself, using selfies, and to remind myself of the things my Mom might say to me, if she were still alive. I also hope one day our daughters will read these affirmations in *my voice* as reminders to them! So this layout is for that project, using a selfie I took in March of this year. I have titled it Embrace All That You Are and journaled about how people will try to tell you all kinds of not nice things, but don't believe them Embrace all that you are! Cut files are full of possibilities, aren't they? My favorite thing to do with them is to paint them! And oh my word, the Clique Kits shop has a most beautiful paint you are going to want to grab right away. It's the DecoArt Metallic Paint in Rose Gold. Once I cut my butterflies out and layered them over my patterned paper, I arranged my embellishments and titles on the page, and then grabbed my paint brush. This is so easy to do, even if you don't feel very *painterly* because all I did was echo the lines of the cut file using simple brush strokes and dots! I used the very tiniest paint brush I had to create the dots, but you could also use the end of your brush as well. Once I had painted my butterflies, I wanted to repeat the dots around the page as well. I have placed my title in a circle around the page, and so it seemed natural to echo the title and add a few more dotted lines that lead your eye directly to my photo. I also used the dots from the i's and j's in the Maggie Holmes alphabet pack to add a bit of dimension to the butterflies, just in their centers. I added just a few embellishments, some are from the April Winter Park kit and some are from the Traveler's Notebook kit. I absolutely adore the deer, so she is layered on top of a rose, and the vellum bird directs your eye into the photo as well from the other side. Notice how everything is placed so carefully to lead your eye right into the photo on this page, from the title, the bird, the pretty deer, and the painted dots. This has been so much fun to create and share with you! Thanks for joining me! Have you ever painted your cut files before? I hope this will inspire you to use them in new ways!
Hi friends, it's Theresa here! This week is Story Focus on the Clique Kits blog, and I wanted to share with you a layout that actually uses product to tell its story. This is the layout I am sharing today. I am using the April Winter Park kit and have chosen the die cut ephemera and printables sheet to help tell the story of this layout. Let me tell you about how this layout evolved! Back in 2015 we took a Spring Break trip to Savannah, GA, and St. Simons Island GA, and I had these adorable photos of our girls at the beach that week. I wanted to create a layout that tells the story of that visit, and all the sights, sounds, and the beauty of the southern states we experienced. My photos are specifically from the beach, but the die cut house from the Winter Park kit reminds me of the Antebellum homes in Savannah. The photos had been printed at a smaller size, 2x3, so I decided to pull all tags from the kit and any other die cuts that were close to that size to use on the layout. Sometimes the best way to display smaller embellishments is in a grid, and so that is what I did here. Even though there is lots to see on the page, the grid keeps everything orderly. I fit each of the photos, die cuts, and tags almost like a puzzle into the design of the layout, and then each piece becomes like a home base for other little bits and bobs. I've layered stickers, alphabet, and flair onto each piece. Some of the embellishments I have sewn down using my machine, to add a bit of texture to the layout. I love repeating elements in my layouts, and since I had sewn some of the tags, I also gave them bows using a really thick, rough twine I had on hand. All of these layers and textures and colors remind me so much of Savannah and St. Simons Island. Notice how I've allowed several elements to "fall off" the page on the top, bottom, and right hand side. This is part of the visual flow of the page where the elements of the layout extend beyond the edges and become part of the background itself. There is so much to see and experience on this layout, just like in Savannah. I love how product can carry the feelings from a place right onto the layout. It was such fun sharing this layout with you! I hope you have been inspired to use products on your layout to tell your story as well!
Hi friends, it's Theresa Moxley here and I am so excited to share my very first Clique Kits layout here with you! I could not wait to get my first kit, the April Winter Park kit, and was delighted to find all the magical Maggie Holmes products included in the kit. The Flourish collection just calls out to me to create a layout about some beautiful flowers or a garden, so I pulled some of my favorite mixed media products and got to work! This is the layout I will be sharing with you today. My favorite mixed media product has to be gesso, hands down! I love mixing up different patterns, colors and textures, and then adding gesso to blend it all together. Gesso is this beautiful medium that is designed to prepare your surface for any kind of paint or treatment, and it is also slightly opaque so whatever is underneath will show through! For this layout I started with some white cardstock and layered a bit of the black and white polka dot packaging that came with my kit right over top. First I used matte medium as my adhesive for the tissue paper, and then I layered gesso with the layers of tissue paper for the very subtle background effect. Once the background was completely dry, I decided the background needed just a tiny bit of color to tie it into the rest of the layout, so I added bits of Heidi Swapp Color Shine in Seafoam. This gave the background a tiny bit of shimmer (amazing!) and works beautifully with the greens in the kit! My photo is of one of the geraniums we had on our front porch last year, so I printed it and cut it out to fit inside the wood veneer frame that was included in my kit. In the spirit of mixed media, I also gesso'd the frame with several beautiful coats, enough to still allow the details of the frame to show through. I added torn strips of patterned paper across the top of the layout, and then began adding my lovely embellishments! The vellum title from Maggie Holmes fit my layout perfectly, so I've sewn it across the bottom of the photo along with tags, one of the market tickets, and other stickers. Most everything I chose has either black and white, or green, fitting with the background I created, and a few touches of pink because the flowers themselves are pink. The beauty of this kit, and of the black and white, is that you can't go wrong with any color. Simply pick your favorites. Since I used one of the black tags from the kit on the left hand side, I wanted to balance that visually on the right hand side, so I made space for my journaling. It reads: "I seriously never considered myself a gardener or a green thumb (ha!) but our small yard is perfect for us and every time something blooms we celebrate!" To finish off my layout I added a bit of green twine around the frame and stitched it in place with my sewing machine. Such a lovely, spring layout and I hope you have been inspired to try gesso in your process too! Happy crafting!
Aloha my friends. Today I am sharing the play by play on how I went from unboxing my April Main kit Winter Park to a finished layout in 15 minutes. Are you ready? 7:00 pm-7:05pmHome from work...surprise! Happy mail awaits. But first...dinner...time out to make a salad and start the grill. Now I get the Silhouette going and in no time I am cutting this month's beautiful butterfly cut file by Maryam Perez! It is quite an intricate file so it takes almost 4 minutes on my old cameo. I decide to use a photo of me on my birthday and it is fitting since this month Clique Kits is also celebrating a birthday! We just turned 4 years old, and entering our 5th year! Whew! 7:06pm -7:10pmI audition a few of the Maggie Holmes Flourish pattern papers as a background but decide they are too busy for this cut file. So I pull out my favorite background- white cardstock. I can't ever have enough white cardstock. Next I grab another cut file that I had previously cut and never used- if you are like me you probably have piles of these somewhere on your desk. It takes me about 3 minutes to back the large butterfly file in some spaces with patterned paper from my kit. I pull out my favorite embellishment from most of the Clique Kits- the ephemera pack and start to play with my design. To keep the focus on my photo of me celebrating my 49th birthday last August, I used a simple color palette of black and white and just one other color-that gorgeous blue! When I am happy with my design, I snap a photo of it to make sure I don't forget where to adhere the pieces. Here is what the photo looked like: 7:11pm-7:15 pmNow I choose my title from my drawer full of Thickers and other alphabets. I thought about using the alphabet in the kit but decided it would be too much metallic stuff. I settle on a word from last November's kit and the number 49 from a really old kit but the color was perfect (I was crazy about that Fancy Pants Designs line.) But getting back to the layout, I am ready to stick it down. Spray adhesive was my choice given the intricacy of the butterflies and the fact that it doesn't show through the vellum pieces. It also took less than a minute to adhere everything! I used some foam tape for the photo because it needed a little lift to rest nicely on the background. I wrote in my journaling just citing the day and occasion the photo was taken and quickly sprinkled a little bit of black ink and done! Wow I think that's a record. Here are a couple of close-ups. Not all of my layouts are this speedy. Sometimes I take days to complete just one! But it is important to make a little time every day for creating and one of the things that really makes this easy is to have inspiration delivered to my door every month. I know you will all be stalking your mailperson in another week or so and in the mean time head over to the shop to grab some add ons to customize your box before its sealed for delivery!
