This Month we got these super adorable Pom Poms in the February Atacama Main Kit!! I knew immediately that I wanted to use these pompoms for something differently. For a while now I have been toying with the idea of using fabric on my scrapbooking projects. When I got thinking about the many ways to use these pompoms I finally decided on something a bit different. I thought it would be fun to make a cover for my Traveler's Notebooks. I generally have about three TN's that I am using at one time. A Traveler's Notebook that is meant for mixed media, so it has thicker paper that takes to all the media I want to throw at it. I also have a TN from Midori that has teal paper, this is my all time favorite Traveler's Notebook. I think it's my favorite cause it's teal and super fun. I got it from an Amy Tan class I took in Hawaii. I also keep the current Traveler's Notebook from my Clique Kits TN kit's I am currently using. Some months I fill up my TN and some month's I only add a few spreads. I also don't mind if they get bulky, but that's where the covers come in handy. They really need to live up to all the stuff I end up sticking in my notebooks. For the cover I added some thin chipboard on the front and back sides on the inside of the fabric. Each side is about five and a half inches wide so that it leaves room for different size notebooks. It is nine and a half inches tall. I left one and a half inch of plain fabric for the spine. I added elastic bands to hold my notebooks. This notebook cover is really simple, since I don't really sew often. It was a great thing to make to move into something crafty and into the sewing arena. I didn't do any fancy stitching but to add flare, I stitched the pompom fringe to the edges on both the top and bottom of the cover. The top of the cover needed something to on it so it wasn't so bare. I thought it would be really cute if I tried some of the ephemera from the Atacama Main Kit from the Crate Paper Good Vibes collection. I also added a few tidbits from the Crate Paper Main Squeeze embellishments that I had, like the die cut pack and the heart tassels. This also matches the pompom tassels on the side. This fringe frame is perfect to house some die cuts and washi. I stapled the frame on to make it more sturdy but the rest of the ephemera I used red line tape to adhere them. This way I could change them out if I feel the need too. The redline tape would keep the card stock die cuts from falling off. I am loving al the bright colors in this kit. I hope today I inspired you to try something a little different with your kits. You don't have to just use them on paper, and when you mix paper crafting with other hobbies you love you have much chances to show off your creations!!
I really hope you share your projects with these amazing pompoms in our Facebook group!! Check out our Youtube Channel this month and see fun ways to use your February Atacama Kit.

It's another FriYAY here on the blog and time to share a travelers notebook layout which will be a small sneak of our December travelers notebook kit. Last weekend my family had a 3 day weekend for Veterans Day and we took the kids camping on an outer island where the stars were so bright in the sky and we almost had the whole beach to ourselves. The perfect title for this layout is "The best weekend" In this layout I used my favorite paper in the December kit which you can see peeking out from behind the photo. I love the copper accents in this kit and the coppery sequins match perfectly. Washi tapes and stamps are two of my must haves for my travelers notebook layouts- and this kit does not disappoint! I can't wait for you to see the full reveal of the December travelers notebook kit! Coming soon!
Happy Wednesday! I first want to say Happy Birthday to my grandma (Omi), though she won't see this as she is not on social media. Today I'm going to share a Travelers Notebook spread I put together. I like to create simple, non-bulky travelers notebook pages and I had so much fun using the November Travelers Notebook kit to help me with this spread. I flipped through my phone and found a picture of my unmade bed that I took the other day. I remember seeing the words "dream" or "dreamy" in the Travelers Notebook kit and thought it would work perfect with my photo. I added the clear sticker from the Amy Tangerine pack that came in the kit right over my photo and then adhered the "dreaming" word from the Pretty Little Studios Pack. Now the challenge was find the word "of". I looked through my stamps and other stickers and struggled finding anything with the word "of". I guess I need more tiny letters. I finally found a Bella Blvd sticker sheet (I believe came in a Clique Kits past kit) and I cut apart a few words to get an "o" and "f". I attached this between "dreaming" and "a million tiny..." Using my sewing machine I attached the tab to the top of my photo. On the opposing page I used the beautiful brush strokes paper and adhered 3 of the 2x2 squares from the collection. Under the photo I tucked the foiled tag and added some ribbon to the top that I had in my stash. And that is it!! A super simple spread using the November 2017 kit. I love how it came together and how it highlights my photo. The focus of my new travelers notebook is to keep it simple and focus on the photos. I love this addition to the book. Thank you for joining me today. If you love this kit, we do have a few available a la carte in our shop. Be sure to stop by tomorrow for even more Clique Kits inspiration!
Also, if you are thinking of putting together a holiday album or December Daily, join my workshop to stay motivated and inspired. Happy Wednesday! Aloha!! Happy FriYAY!! It's Hannah with you this fine day. Today I am using the November Cornucopia Traveler's Notebook Kit. I am using it in an unexpected way too. I don't know if you are like me at all, but December Scrapbooking is on my mind already. I am thinking of all the products I want to use and the system I want to use to document my December Days. There is so much to think about and prepare especially if you want the project to be successful. I wanted to share a few simple tips before the busy holiday season is upon us so you too can be successful and you can create a precious keepsake for your family to enjoy for years to come. My first biggest and most important tip I have is to have a journal handy throughout the whole month. I am not sure if I can state how crucial this tip is. Many of us have many more tasks, plans and things that place in December. I wish I could say you will remember every little detail, but you probably won't. By keeping a journal handy and nearby, you can jot down the moments and memories you want to remember. Then later when you are working on your album you will have those moments already documented and at your finger tips. It will help cut down the time you need to actually get your album completed. I am going to use a TN this year. This insert that I am using is the TN that came with the Autumn cover from the Store. Besides being gorgeous and so soft. The cover comes with two inserts. One insert is a calendar and the other insert is a simple grid design. This makes it perfect for just journaling. I will be stamping the date with my roller date stamp on each page and using one to two pages to just brain dump the things from that day that I want to remember later. When I go to make my album I can then decide what stories I want to add to the album and which ones aren't that important. Either way it's documented, because I will add this insert with the album. That way if my family wants to read all the details they can. I have started using this system for my Project Life and it has been a life saver. For the cover I added a fun stamp from Melo Milo that has tons of holiday themed images. I used a simple black dye ink from One Canoe Two, which is my favorite black ink for stamping right now. I mixed the stamp with the block tile alphas from the TN kit. In Photoshop I resized one of the 3x4 exclusive printable journalling cards. This is one of my favorite parts to getting these exclusive printable pieces, is that they come in PNG format. They can easily be modified to fit the project I am doing. Resizing in photo shop is so simple. I even added font to the image for my title page. Then it is all ready be to saved and printed right at home on thicker cover stock. My next tip is to change things up, add non christmas or holiday themed pieces to your December projects. This will help when you are in the middle of the season and slowly getting bored of all the holiday themed papers and pieces. It will add a bit of breathing room on your projects. When you are done with your album you can easily add those items back into your stash. Using non traditional and holiday themed products can help you use up some things form your stash in your album and maybe even help you not over buy things you might not use. You can spend your money on the special holiday themed items you really want. Tip number three... Prep as much as you can ahead of time. Make a homemade kit or buy a kit premade. Pick the album type and start getting all the pages you need ready before December comes. I actually suggest doing it at the beginning of November before all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season even starts. That way you have time to buy more products if you need too. This also gets you in the mood to take on a big project like documenting the month of December. Being prepared ahead of time will allow you to spend less time putting the album together at the end. Especially if you are trying to do it in December. This is my cover page. I wanted to journal to myself a bit, and what better than to use a gold gel pen. So fun and festive. I repeated the stamping as the cover on a white doily. I also stamped some acorns on the doily from another stamp set I have in my stash. By layering journalling cards, tags, doilies, glassine bags and a paper strip, I have created a focal point. I wanted to have a place where I had a lot of texture going on to balance the busy and strong colors of the opposite side. I kept the layers pretty simple with lots of white space. I love how this journaling card from Pretty Little Studio Tales and Dreams is peaking out from the glassine bag. I love these colors too. They aren't your traditional colors of December but they are loud and a break from all the holiday inspired colors. I think this will be perfect for me to want to grab this TN to record and jot down memories at the end of the day. I also fussy cut a flower from the patterned paper in the TN kit. I added it on the tag with a label and a 2x2 square from the Tales and Dreams Collection that is in the kit. Because the tag is tucked in the bag it really helps keep the patterns muted. The last tip I want to leave with you today is to also remember you don't have to document each day either, you are in charge of what and how you do a project like this. You do it how it makes you happy. There are so may examples of how you can document December and your holiday season. Have fun with it, enjoy the process. I added some simple embellishments and stickers to some of my pages. This will help break up the journaling and make this TN a little bit more than just plain. Though that would definitely fine, I know I get more inspired to write when I have some thing cute on the pages.
The exclusive November TN printables are a fun touch. By adding a sticker to the printable, it makes the embellishment more complex without adding to many layers. I really want to try not to add to much bulk to this TN journal since it is going to go with my December album. Also don't forget to check out the Store for any Holiday inspired items and add ons. There are exclusive printables and really festive holiday themed Traveler's Notebook's too. See you around next week, my scraps friends!! |
